This programme teaches you to design, build and deploy applications for both mobile platforms and the web. You will study iOS and Android development alongside modern JavaScript frameworks such as React and React Native, as well as back-end technologies, databases and cloud services. Practical work is central to the course: you spend significant time building real applications and assembling a professional portfolio that you can show to employers. A work placement module, typically in third year, places you with a technology company where you gain hands-on industry experience. By graduation you will be comfortable moving between front-end interfaces, server-side logic and native mobile environments.
Entry is through the CAO and typically requires a Leaving Certificate with a minimum of six subjects including English and Mathematics at Ordinary level or above, though Higher-level Maths is advantageous and may attract bonus points. CAO points requirements are moderate, making this accessible compared to many computer science programmes. Applicants holding a relevant QQI Level 5 or Level 6 FET/PLC award in computing or IT can apply through the QQI links pathway, often with a distinction or merit profile. Mature applicants aged 23 or over may apply directly to the institution and are assessed on motivation and relevant experience. HEAR and DARE access schemes are available at all three institutions for eligible applicants.
Demand for mobile and web developers in Ireland remains strong, driven by continued investment from multinational technology companies and a growing domestic start-up ecosystem. Graduate employment rates for computing programmes are consistently high, and many students receive job offers before or shortly after completing their final-year placement. Salaries for entry-level roles typically range from approximately €32,000 to €42,000 per year, with experienced developers earning considerably more. Progression is generally swift for those who maintain an up-to-date skills portfolio.
AI tools such as GitHub Copilot and AI-assisted testing are already reshaping how developers write and review code, and this is reflected in how the course is taught. You will learn to work alongside these tools rather than treat them as a threat, using them to accelerate development while maintaining responsibility for architecture and quality. Demand for developers who understand AI integration — such as embedding large language model APIs into mobile and web applications — is growing rapidly. Critical thinking, problem-solving and portfolio depth remain what employers value most alongside technical skills.

How to apply
Most BSc programmes in Mobile and Web Development are applied for through the CAO (cao.ie) by 1 February each year, with the majority of offers made on results day in August. Griffith College and a small number of private providers accept direct applications year-round and do not use the CAO system.
