Disability Advocate
Teacher turned disability advocate and Vogue cover star.
Sinéad Burke grew up in Dublin and pursued her passion for learning all the way to third level, training as a primary school teacher. She developed strong interests in writing, academia, and how the world is designed — and crucially, designed to exclude. Her experiences as a person with achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism, shaped her thinking from an early age and gave her a perspective that most people around her simply did not have.
Sinéad began her career as a teacher and writer before stepping onto a much larger stage with her TED talk 'Why design should include everyone', which brought her message to a global audience. She became a Vogue cover star and an internationally recognised voice on disability, inclusion, and accessibility. She went on to found Tilting the Lens, a consultancy that works with organisations to create real, lasting change for Disabled people. She also served on the Irish Council of State between 2019 and 2025, one of the most senior advisory roles in the country.
Sinéad's story shows that the things that make you different can become your greatest strength — not in spite of the world's barriers, but because you understand them better than anyone else. If systems aren't working for you, you don't have to accept that; you can be the person who changes them.
