Park Run Clonmel: A Free Weekly 5km in County Tipperary

Join the free, timed parkrun every Saturday morning in Clonmel, County Tipperary — perfect for walkers, joggers and seasoned runners alike.

Parkrun Clonmel takes place every Saturday morning at the Clonmel Racecourse, Powerstown Park, on the northern edge of Clonmel town in County Tipperary. The event is completely free to enter, timed, and welcoming to all abilities — whether you're walking it with a buggy, jogging at your own pace, or chasing a personal best. The 5km course winds around the flat, open grounds of the racecourse, making it one of the more beginner-friendly routes in the region.

Getting there is straightforward — Powerstown Park is well signposted from the town centre and has ample free car parking on site. Clonmel is the largest town in County Tipperary and is served by Bus Éireann routes connecting it to Waterford, Limerick and Thurles, though the racecourse itself is about a fifteen-minute walk from the bus station on Parnell Street. If you're travelling light, the walk is a decent warm-up in itself.

To take part, you simply need to register once at parkrun.ie and print or download your personal barcode — without it, your time cannot be recorded. Registration is free and takes only a few minutes online. On the morning, just show up before the 9am start, hand in your barcode at the finish, and your result will appear on the parkrun website later that day. Volunteers are the heartbeat of every event, and new helpers are always warmly welcomed if you'd rather help out than run on a given week.

What to expect on the morning: a friendly briefing for first-timers, a genuine mix of ages and fitness levels, and the kind of easy conversation that makes the kilometres pass quickly. Dogs on short leads are welcome, and junior runners aged four to fourteen can take part alongside a parent or guardian. The atmosphere is supportive rather than competitive — tail walkers ensure nobody is ever last, and every finisher is acknowledged.

Local tip: most regulars head straight to Kickham Street or O'Connell Street in Clonmel town centre afterwards for coffee and a catch-up — the town has a handful of independent cafés that are well used to a post-parkrun crowd on Saturday mornings. If you arrive early, the Suir Blueway trailhead is only minutes away and worth a look for your next visit. There is no cost whatsoever to participate — just register online, print your barcode, and show up.
