As a Partnerships Manager you identify, develop and manage strategic alliances with channel partners, affiliates, resellers and third-party organisations to drive revenue growth for your employer. You negotiate commercial agreements, set out contract terms and ensure that partnership arrangements deliver mutual value over time. Much of your day involves collaborating with internal sales, marketing, legal and product teams, as well as maintaining strong working relationships with external partner contacts. The role is especially prominent in SaaS companies, fintech and financial services firms, many of which have their Irish headquarters in Dublin's tech and IFSC districts.
Listen: a day as a Partnerships Manager
You arrive at your company's open-plan office in Grand Canal Dock shortly before eight-thirty. Before the day properly starts you scan your inbox and a shared Slack channel to catch any overnight messages from partners based in the UK or continental Europe. One of your reseller contacts in London has flagged a query about revised commission tiers in your partnership agreement, so you note it down to address later. You also check the partnership dashboard in Salesforce, the CRM system your team uses to track deal pipelines and partner activity. At nine o'clock you join a thirty-minute video call with a fintech firm based in the IFSC. You have been negotiating a co-sell arrangement with them for six weeks, meaning both companies would jointly market a combined product to shared customers. Today you are working through the commercial terms with their head of alliances and your own legal team, line by line. Agreeing on revenue-share percentages and liability caps is slower than it sounds, and you leave the call without a final sign-off.

icould career stories
Some videos were filmed in the UK. The work itself is the same, but the exams, qualifications and pay they mention are British — we include them so you get a feel for the job.
Most Partnerships Managers hold an NFQ Level 8 Honours Bachelor degree, typically in Business, Marketing, Commerce or a related field from institutions such as UCD, DCU, TU Dublin or University of Galway. Subjects such as Business, Economics, Accounting and Mathematics at Leaving Certificate Higher level provide a strong foundation for entry to relevant CAO programmes. A postgraduate qualification — such as an NFQ Level 9 Masters in Marketing, Strategy or International Business — is increasingly common among candidates moving into senior partnership roles. Some professionals enter through a Level 7 Business degree and progress with industry experience, though the Level 8 route is the most direct pathway in Ireland. No statutory registration body governs this role, but professional membership of organisations such as the Marketing Institute of Ireland or Chartered Institute of Marketing is valued by many employers.
Many Partnerships Managers begin their careers in sales, business development or marketing roles, accumulating several years of commercial experience before stepping into a dedicated partnerships function. In Ireland's SaaS and fintech sectors it is common to move from a Business Development Representative or Account Executive role into a junior partnerships position before progressing to Partnerships Manager. With a proven track record of generating revenue through alliances, you could advance to Head of Partnerships, VP of Alliances or Director of Channel Sales. At the most senior levels, professionals may move into Chief Revenue Officer or Chief Commercial Officer positions with full P&L responsibility.
AI tools are transforming how Partnerships Managers identify and prioritise potential partners, with platforms now able to scan market data and flag high-fit candidates automatically. CRM and revenue intelligence software powered by AI helps you track partner health scores and predict which alliances are likely to underperform before problems arise. Routine reporting, contract summarisation and performance dashboards are increasingly automated, freeing you to focus on the relationship-building and strategic negotiation that AI cannot replicate. Overall, AI is likely to increase the productivity of experienced Partnerships Managers rather than reduce demand for the role.
