What will you learn?

This degree prepares you to work across the Irish property market, covering residential and commercial sales, lettings, property management, and valuation. You study the legal framework governing property transactions, planning and development regulations, and the economics of land and buildings. Practical modules include auctioneering technique, negotiation, and client management, while site visits and work placements give you direct experience of how agents and valuers operate in the field. A typical week might involve lectures in property law and economics, a workshop on valuation methodology, and time in placement with a licensed estate agency or surveying practice. The programme is accredited by the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI) and the Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers (IPAV), giving graduates a clear route to professional membership and a PSRA licence.

Required Education

Entry is through the CAO and typically requires a Leaving Certificate with at least six subjects, including English and Mathematics. Higher-level Maths is advantageous but not always mandatory; Business, Economics, and Geography are useful supporting subjects. CAO points for this programme are moderate, reflecting solid but not elite demand. If you do not meet the Leaving Certificate requirements, a relevant QQI Level 5 or Level 6 PLC award in Business, Property Studies, or a related area can provide a progression route into the programme. Mature applicants aged 23 or over may apply directly to TU Dublin under the mature-student admissions process, and HEAR and DARE access schemes are available for eligible applicants.

Career Prospects

The Irish property market remains active, with consistent demand for licensed professionals in both urban centres and regional towns. Graduate employment rates in this field are generally strong, particularly when the residential and commercial markets are buoyant, though the sector can be sensitive to interest-rate and economic cycles. The PSRA licence requirement means employers actively seek graduates who already meet the regulatory threshold, giving TU Dublin graduates a competitive edge. With experience, many professionals progress to senior negotiator, branch manager, or director roles, or move into property investment and asset management.

Impact of AI on this program

AI-powered valuation tools and automated property listing platforms are already changing how agents price properties and generate leads, reducing some routine administrative work. You will need to understand and critically evaluate these tools rather than rely on them uncritically, as professional judgement, client relationships, and negotiation remain distinctly human skills. Predictive analytics are increasingly used to identify market trends and investment opportunities, so data literacy is becoming a useful addition to the traditional skill set. Overall, AI is likely to reshape workflows rather than replace licensed professionals, whose legal accountability and local market knowledge remain central to the role.
