Olympic Sprinter
Tallaght sprinter rewriting the Irish record books.
Rhasidat Adeleke grew up in Tallaght, Dublin, where she first discovered her love of athletics as a young girl. She attended school in Dublin before earning an athletics scholarship to the University of Texas in the United States, a path that took her far from home in pursuit of her potential. Her time in Texas allowed her to train at an elite level while completing her university studies, combining academic ambition with sporting excellence.
Rhasidat began competing for Ireland and quickly made her mark, breaking national records in the 200m and 400m and establishing herself as one of Europe's finest sprinters. At the 2024 European Championships, she claimed a silver medal in the 400m and was part of the Irish mixed 4×400m relay team that won gold — a historic moment for Irish athletics. She added another silver medal in the 200m at the 2026 European Championships in Birmingham, running a new national record in the process. Each major championship has seen her push the boundaries of what Irish sprinting can achieve.
Rhasidat's story shows that talent from any corner of Ireland — including a Dublin housing estate — can reach the very highest level with the right self-belief and hard work. She took a brave decision to move abroad for her education and training, proving that being open to new paths can unlock opportunities you never imagined. Your background doesn't set your ceiling; your determination does.
