Christmas morning dip at the Forty Foot

"What if you started Christmas Day with a roar and a jump into the Irish Sea?"

Why this is so fun

There is nothing on earth quite like standing on the rocks at Sandycove in your togs at eight in the morning, surrounded by hundreds of roaring Dubliners who have absolutely lost the plot in the best possible way. The second you hit the water your brain forgets every stress you have ever had. You come out the other side feeling stupidly alive, a little bit proud, and ready to eat your body weight in turkey. It turns out Christmas morning panic is no match for the Irish Sea.

Someone who did this

Conor (23), Westport — works in his uncle's hardware shop, does a bit of sea kayaking when the weather allows

My cousin Roisin talked me into it and I spent the whole drive from Westport on Christmas Eve quietly regretting agreeing to it.
