Ride the Sky Road at golden hour

"What if the best view in Connemara cost you nothing but a bike ride?"

Why this is so fun

There is a moment on the Sky Road when the Atlantic opens up below you, the light turns the kind of amber that makes everything look unreal, and you realise you earned this view with your own legs. Sixteen kilometres is manageable for almost anyone, and the climb that felt punishing on the way up pays you back with a freewheel descent that feels genuinely ridiculous. You come away understanding why people move their whole lives to the west of Ireland, and a little more certain that you do not need much to feel completely alive.

Someone who did this

Clodagh (34), Dungarvan — dental hygienist, keeps a very serious spreadsheet of every county road she has cycled

I'd been telling myself I'd do the Sky Road for about four years, and I finally just booked a night in Clifden on a Wednesday in September because the forecast showed a clear evening and I had no good excuse left.
