Take on an obstacle race with friends

"What if mud, walls and ropes were the whole point?"

Why this is so fun

There is something genuinely freeing about throwing yourself into a ditch of Wicklow mud while your mate is half-laughing, half-drowning beside you. Obstacle racing strips away any cool exterior pretty fast, and that is exactly the point. You find out you are stronger than you thought, that you can haul yourself over a wall you were certain would beat you, and that suffering shared with friends somehow becomes the best story you own. It is messy, loud, exhausting and completely worth every kilometre.

Someone who did this

Darragh (23), Drogheda — works in a logistics depot, does five-a-side every Thursday without fail

Four of us signed up for Hell and Back at Kilruddery in October, mostly because Ciarán kept saying it would be grand and none of us wanted to be the one who said no.
