Walk up Carrauntoohil with a guide

"What if you stood on the highest point in Ireland?"

Why this is so fun

There is nothing quite like hauling yourself up the Devil's Ladder, lungs burning, and then suddenly breaking through the cloud to see Kerry spread out below you in every direction. Standing on the highest point in Ireland at 1,038 metres gives you this daft, brilliant feeling that you have briefly outranked the entire country. You learn you are tougher than you thought, that bad weather is survivable, and that a flask of hot tea at the summit tastes better than anything.

Someone who did this

Killian (38), Waterford — secondary school PE teacher, obsessed with GAA statistics in a way that annoys his wife

I'd been saying I'd do Carrauntoohil for about six years, and then my brother-in-law booked it without asking me and suddenly I had no excuse.
